Gonorrhea is caused by Gram negative bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae, also known as gonococcus.It is a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

Transmission of gonorrhea Symptoms

Gonococcus is present in the discharge from the penis and vaginal fluid of infected men and women. Courses of contamination transmission include:

  • It can be transmitted from one person to another through unprotected vaginal, oral, or anal sex
  • It can also be transmitted to an infected person by washing or covering sex toys and vibrators using condoms.

  • Gonococcus can a pregnant woman to her baby

Incubation period

The incubation period is usually between 2 and 5 days but can be up to 10 days. The incubation period is the infection and symptoms.

Gonorrhea Symptoms and infection

About 50% of women and 10% of men show no signs of infection.

In men:

  • In more than 80% men there is discharge from the urethra.The discharge may be clear, watery or filled with yellow pus.
  • In over 50% of men with the infection, there is pain in urination or dysuria
  • There is pain or tenderness of the epididymis, testes, and genitals in case of inflammation.
  • In case of a rectal infection, 12% may experience discharge from the anus and pain and itching around the anus. 7% of individuals with infection may experience bleeding infections
  • No more than 90% of symptoms occur in the throat or in the back of the throat.
  • With gonococcal conjunctivitis
    Can cause pain, swelling, irritation, and discharge in the eyes.

In women:

  • Infection of the cervix or endocervical infection. Around 50% of women with a cervix infection may have no symptoms. In the rest the most common symptom is discharge from the vagina. The discharge may be clear, watery, or perhaps filled with yellow pus.
  • A quarter of patients experience lower abdominal pain.Some women experience menstrual bleeding or excessive menstruation due to infection. Bleeding from the cervix occurs easily. Pain in urination or dysuria in 12% of infected women. However, there is no need to urinate frequently. Seen in urinary tract infections.
  • Rectal contamination generally does not show any side effects in women. This is due to the spread of vaginal fluid during rectal or butt-centric intercourse with a dirty partner.
  • In over 90% infected women with gonococcal infection of the pharynx, there are no symptoms.
  • Infection of the eyes can cause pain, swelling, irritation, and discharge. This is gonococcal conjunctivitis.
